In this chapter... Katie is still in St. Mungo’s hospital. Nobody knows who gave Katie the dangerous parcel – Harry, however, is still convinced of Malfoy’s guilt. Harry has his next private lesson with Professor Dumbledore. Dumbledore has been absent from Hogwarts lately. He won’t tell Harry where he has been, but says he will tell Harry eventually. They use the Pensieve again. First of all they see a memory of Mr Burke (one of the owners of Borgin and Burke’s). He tells of how he brought a locket from Merope Gaunt, for very little money.
Then Harry and Professor Dumbledore enter the memory of a younger Dumbledore, visiting a Muggle orphanage and visiting an orphan, Tom Riddle. Even when younger, Tom had magical powers. Harry sees the younger Dumbledore telling Tom that he has been accepted as Hogwarts. Tom, of course, will grow up to be Lord Voldemort. When Dumbledore interviews Tom and tells him he can do magic the boy is proud and self-absorbed. Dumbledore finds out he steals and is cruel to other children in the orphanage. Tom always seemed to enjoy collecting “trophies” from his crimes.
This younger Albus Dumbledore’s long hair and beard were auburn. Having reached their side of the street, he strode off along the pavement, drawing many curious glances due to the flamboyantly cut suit of plum velvet that he was wearing.
“Nice suit, sir,” said Harry, before he could stop himself, but Dumbledore merely chuckled.
In his next lesson with Professor Dumbledore, Harry is taken to a memory of Dumbledore’s, and sees a much younger Tom Riddle. After Tom Riddle argued with a Billy Stubbs, what animal is found hung? Rabbit
Chapter 14: Felix Felicis
In this chapter... Hermione and Ron are fascinated to hear about a younger Lord Voldemort. Ron is jealous of Harry and Hermione being members of the “Slug Club”. Professor Slughorn keeps holding little parties for selected pupils – although Harry has always managed to find excuses not to attend them. Ron is taken aback when Hermione tells him that she was planning on asking him to the next one as her guest. Harry is a little confused how to handle Hermione and Ron’s friendship together. If they fell out, he might lose his two best friends.
The first Quidditch match of the season is rapidly approaching. Ron isn’t doing very well as Gryffindor Keeper, and not very popular with his teammates. After another Quidditch practice, Harry and Ron find Ginny and her boyfriend, Dean Thomas, kissing. Ron is furious, and Harry is surprised to find he doesn’t like it either. He doesn't want anyone touching Ginny, and quickly realizes he really likes her, that he has for a long time but he never knew it. It is the day of the first Quidditch match – Gryffindor against Slytherin. To bolster Ron’s confidence, while playing Quidditch, Harry pretends to put Felix Felicis into Ron’s pumpkin juice before the game. He lets Hermione see him “spike” Ron’s drink. When Ron suspects he drank the potion his confidence soars and they win spectacularly. Hermione accuses Harry of spiking Ron’s drink, and Harry reveals to them that he never did anything to Ron’s drink. Hermione storms off in tears, after another argument with Ron. Ron retaliates against Hermione later that night by kissing Lavender Brown for hours at a time. Hermione is devastated, and a feud begins.
She’s Ron’s sister, Harry told himself firmly. Ron’s sister. She’s out of bounds. He would not risk his friendship with Ron for anything. He punched his pillow into a more comfortable shape and waited for sleep to come, trying his utmost not to allow his thoughts to stray anywhere near Ginny.
Which aunt does Ginny taunt Ron about, saying he sleeps with a picture of her under his pillow? Muriel
