In this chapter... It is nearly time for Quidditch try-outs. The Trio haven’t had the chance to go and see Hagrid, to apologise for not taking Care of Magical Creatures lessons. Hagrid seems to be avoiding him. Lots of people want to try out for the Gryffindor Quidditch team – Harry is attracting lots of attention. Cormac McLaggen, a Gryffindor seventh year, also attended Professor Slughorn’s little party, on the way to Hogwarts. He is trying out for Gryffindor Keeper – like Ron. Cormac seems to think he will get special treatment from Harry. Cormac gets furious when Harry chooses Ron over him, but Ron played better than him. Harry gets suspicious over Hermione's behaviour and starts to wonder if she jinxed Cormac so Ron could get on the team.
After try-outs the Trio go to talk to Hagrid. He's furious with them at first, but quickly bursts into tears and tells them that the giant spider, Aragog, is dying. Hermione admits to Harry that she did indeed Confund McLaggen. Slughorn invites Harry and Hermione to a little dinner party he's throwing next Saturday, and is dismayed when Harry tells him he has detention with Snape and can't make it.
“I’m a teacher!” he roared at Harry. “A teacher, Potter! How dare yeh threaten ter break down my door!”
“I’m sorry, sir,” said Harry, emphasizing the last word as he stowed his wand inside his robes.
Hagrid looked stunned. “Since when have yeh called me ‘sir’?”
“Since when have you called me ‘Potter’?”
What is the first name of Peakes, one of the new Beaters on the Quidditch team? Jimmy
Chapter 12: Silver and Opals
In this chapter... It is the first Hogsmeade weekend and the weather is not very pleasant. Harry catches Mundungus Fletcher selling some of Sirius's possessions that he stole from Grimmauld Place. Before Harry can take Mundungus to the authorities, Mundungus Disapparates. Professor Slughorn invites Harry to another party, but he can't make it this time because he's got another lesson with Professor Dumbledore. The weather is getting worse as the Trio return to Hogwarts. Ahead of them are the Gryffindor Chaser, Katie Bell, and her friend Leanne. They seem to be arguing about a package what Katie is carrying.
The package rips and falls to the ground. . Suddenly Katie floats eerily up into the air, and then starts to scream in the most horrible way. Harry runs for help and comes across Hagrid. Hagrid takes Katie to Hogwarts immediately. Professor McGonagall is waiting for the Trio, at Hogwarts. In the package, of Katie’s, is an ornate opal necklace. Harry recognises it as an object from Borgin and Burkes. He first saw it four years ago, and it was there when Draco Malfoy was there, when they were in Diagon Alley too. Harry is convinced that Malfoy is behind the whole ugly scene, and is furious with his friends when they don't support his theory. Professor McGonagall says Draco was not in Hogsmeade – he was in detention with her, for failing to do his divination homework.
Harry had pinned Mundungus against the wall of the pub by the throat. Holding him fast with one hand, he pulled out his wand.
“Harry!” squealed Hermione.
“You took that from Sirius’s house,” said Harry, who was almost nose-to-nose with Mundungus and was breathing in an unpleasant smell of old tobacco and spirits. “That had the Black family crest on it”
Harry finds helpful hints and spells that the Half Blood Prince has written in the Potion book. One of them is a hex that makes toenails to grow alarmingly fast. Who did Harry try this on? Vincent Crabbe
