Chapter 3: Will And Won't
In this chapter... Harry Potter is sitting by his bedroom window, in number four, Privet Drive. Harry received a letter from Professor Dumbledore to say that he would be collecting Harry from the Dursleys at 11 pm, that evening. But Harry has not packed, in case the letter was a joke or a trap. However, Professor Dumbledore arrives at the appointed time. Dumbledore's arrival is less-than-welcome to the Dursley's. Vernon looks at Professor Dumbledore with loathing while Petunia seems frightened, as is Dudley.
Professor Dumbledore seems to have injured his wand hand – his hand is black and burnt. Harry learns that Sirius left him everything in his will – including 12 Grimmauld Place and Kreacher the house-elf. Harry hates Kreacher as Kreacher betrayed Sirius. When Kreacher arrives at Privet Drive, and throws a tantrum, Harry send him to Hogwarts, so that he can work at the kitchens – and also, the other house-elves can keep an eye on him. As Harry and Dumbledore are leaving, Dumbledore reprimands the Dursley's for never showing Harry any kindness. Professor Dumbledore says that Harry must be allowed to come back one more time to Privet Drive before he comes of age next year. Harry and Professor Dumbledore leave Privet Drive.

“You did not do as I asked. You have never treated Harry as a son. He has known nothing but neglect and often cruelty at your hands. The best that can be said is that he has at least escaped the appalling damage you have inflicted upon the unfortunate boy sitting between you.”

What time does Professor Dumbledore collect Harry from Privet Drive? 11 pm

Chapter 4: Horace Slughorn

In this chapter... Professor Dumbledore takes Harry on his first Apparition journey. They Apparate in a village. Harry much prefers flying by broomstick. Professor Dumbledore is taking Harry on a mysterious errand. Harry questions Dumbledore about what's been going on in the wizarding world while he's been stuck at the Dursley's. Harry finds out that the reason his scar hasn't burned once is because Voldemort is now practicing Occlumency against him. Professor Dumbledore and Harry are going to visit an old colleague, Horace Slughorn. When they arrive at Professor Slughorn’s home, it looks as if there has been a vicious attack – all the blood horrifies Harry. Professor Dumbledore quickly unmasks Horace Slughorn, who had transfigured himself into an armchair.
Slughorn is a fussy old man, who likes to associate himself with famous and powerful people. Slughorn doesn’t seem to want to look at Harry. Professor Dumbledore tries to persuade Horace to take up a teaching post at Hogwarts. Slughorn refuses, it is too dangerous. Professor Dumbledore leaves the room, and Harry learns that Horace Slughorn knew his mother. Slughorn used to teach at Hogwarts, and thought very highly of Lily Evans. He used to be head of Slytherin House. Slughorn doesn’t seem to think much of Muggle born witches and wizards. Harry is able to, inadvertently, convince Slughorn to come back to work at Hogwarts. Professor Dumbledore and Harry now Apparate to the Burrow. Harry is not sure if he likes Horace Slughorn – or, Professor Slughorn as he is now.
At the Burrow, Professor Dumbledore informs Harry that they'll be taking private lessons together. He praises Harry at how well he is handling Sirius’s death. He tells Harry that he should tell Ron and Hermione about the prophecy regarding him and Voldemort, because he needs his friends.

“Let us not deprive Molly any longer of the chance to deplore how thin you are.”

What did Professor Slughorn transform into, when he was trying to hide from Harry and Professor Dumbledore? An armchair
