In this chapter... Harry can’t stop thinking about Lord Voldemort possessing him. He avoids everybody else for days until Hermione comes to Grimmauld Place – she did not enjoy skiing very much – and confronts Harry. Ron, Hermione and Ginny convince Harry that Voldemort is not possessing him – Ginny even reminds Harry that Voldemort possessed her four years ago. She knows exactly what it feels like, and Harry isn’t having blank periods of time, where he doesn’t know what he was doing.
They all go to see Mr Weasley on Christmas Day. Mr Weasley’s wounds are not healing as well as they should be. The Healers had attempted Muggle stitches, on Arthur, much to Molly’s disgust. Harry, Hermione, Ginny and Ron leave Mrs Weasley shouting at her husband, and try and find the visitor’s tearoom. When they are looking for it, they come across their ex Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher – Gilderoy Lockheart. His memory is still slightly vague, so is on a closed ward. While unwillingly visiting with Lockheart, on the ward, they also meet Neville and his Grandmother. They are visiting Neville’s parents, who were tortured into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange. Hermione Ginny and Ron are horrified to learn Neville’s secret, and feel extremely sorry for him. But, of course, Harry already knew about Neville’s parents. This, perhaps, contains one of the saddest scenes for me, when Neville’s parents are introduced.
“Well it’s nothing to be ashamed of!” said Mrs Longbottom angrily. “You should be proud, Neville, proud! They didn’t give their health and their sanity so their only son would be ashamed of them, you know!”
“I’m not ashamed,” said Neville, very faintly, still looking anywhere but at Harry and the others.
At St. Mungo's Hospital, Harry, Ron and Hermione come across Gilderoy Lockhart. What is the name of the ward in which he is kept? Janus Thickey
Chapter 24: Occlumency
In this chapter... Harry isn’t looking forward to returning to Hogwarts as much as he thought he would – he doesn’t want to leave Sirius in Grimmauld Place alone again. Also Harry discovers that Professor Dumbledore wants him to learn Occlumency – "the magical defence of the mind against external penetration". – from none other than Professor Snape. Snape comes to Grimmauld Place to tell Harry of this, and enjoys taunting Sirius at the same time. Mr Weasley is out of hospital and back to full health. Everybody returns to Hogwarts by the Knight Bus.
On the first day back, Harry manages to ask Cho Chang to join him in Hogsmeade, on the next Hogsmeade weekend – which, coincidentally is Valentine’s Day. However, during his Occlumency lesson. Snape repeatedly taunts Harry and forces open his mind. Harry has lots of memories – some he is unwilling to show Snape – but he finally has a break-through. Harry realizes that the corridor he's been dreaming about for so many months is in the Department of Mysteries. That night as he's getting ready for bed Harry's scar explodes with pain, and Harry knows that Voldemort is happier about something than he has been in years.
“Harry, dear,” said Mrs Weasley, poking her head into his and Ron’s bedroom, where the pair of them were playing wizard chess watched by Hermione, Ginny, and Crookshanks, “could you come down to the kitchen? Professor Snape would like a word with you.”
What is on Professor Snape’s desk? Pensieve
