Chapter 13: Detention With Dolores
In this chapter... The students are gossiping about Harry’s outburst at Professor Umbridge. They all want to know what exactly happened in the maze, the summer before, when Harry brought out Cedric Diggory’s dead body. The Trio begin on their mountain of homework. Fred and George are testing Fainting Fancies on First years. Hermione threatens to tell Mrs Weasley. Also, Hermione is knitting hats and socks, for the elves, so that they will be set free.
Harry does his first detention with Professor Umbridge. Harry has to write lines – “I must not tell lies” with a special quill, provided by Professor Umbridge. This quill cuts into the back of his hand – the ink used for the lines, is Harry’s own blood. Harry does not complain at all, and tries to keep it from Hermione and Ron, without success. The dententions continue all week. Ron has been secretly trying out for the new Gryffindor Keeper, and is choosen.

“What in the name of Merlin are you doing?” said Ron, watching her as though fearful for her sanity.
“They’re hats for house-elves,” she said briskly

What is so peculiar about the quill Professor Umbridge has Harry use? It cuts whatever he writes on the parchment into his hand

Chapter 14: Percy And Padfoot

In this chapter... It is finally the weekend. Harry writes to Sirius, which is carefully worded, in case it is intercepted, telling him that he is worried about Hagrid not being at Hogwarts and how horrible Umbridge is. When he goes to the Owlery to send the letter with Hedwig, he meets up with Cho Chang – and actually has a normal conversation with her. They are confronted by Argus Filch, the caretaker, who accuses Harry of sending off an order of Dungbombs.
Quidditch practice does not go well – the Slytherin’s come down to watch the practice, and taunt the team. Ron does not play very well, and Katie Bell accidently is given a Blood Blisterpod by the Twins. That evening, Ron receives an owl from Percy. Percy urges Ron to sever ties from Harry – he will achieve more, if he is not friends with him. Percy talks about Professor Umbridge being at Hogwarts – he believes she will be a great success. Sirius’s head appears in the Common Room fireplace. warning of future Ministry involvement at Hogwarts and urging him to sever ties Harry learns the Ministry thinks Dumbledore is trying to train Hogwarts students in combat so he can overthrow Fudge. The meeting ends on a bitter note as Harry urges Sirius not to take risks to come see him, and Sirius gets offended.

The first week of term seemed to have dragged on forever, like one gigantic History of Magic lesson.
