Chapter 19: The Hungarian Horntail
In this chapter... Rita Skeeter publishes her interview with Harry, and barely mentions the other champions. Harry gets more grief from the Slytherins. With barely a week to go, Harry and Hermione go int Hogsmeade. Harry is still totally ignoring Ron. While in the Three Broomsticks, Hagrid asks Harry to meet him at midnight to see something important. It is on the same night as Harry has arranged to see Sirius. Relucantly Harry goes to Hagrid’s hut at midnight, under the cloak. Harry follows Hagrid and Madam Maxime around the grounds he sees a scene that stops his heart. Gigantic dragons have been brought in for the first task. The champions job will be to retrieve the golden egg. Charlie Weasley is trying to control the dragons. The most dangerous dragon is a Hungarian Horntail – there is three more too, a Swedish Short-Snout, a Welsh Green and a Chinese Fireball. Harry bumps into Victor Krum on his way back to Hogwarts.
When Harry meets Sirius in the fire later on he’s not feeling any better. He has no idea how he’ll accomplish the task. Sirius urges him to be careful, because he’s sure someone in the castle has it in for Harry and wants to kill him. He suspects is may be Karkaraff, the Durmstrang Headmaster, who used to be a Death Eater. He knows that somebody put Harry’s name in the Goblet. Harry cuts his meeting with Sirius short when Ron walks into the Common Room. Harry is furious with him still, and they get into another row.

“He’s not even good-looking!” she muttered angrily, glaring at Krum’s sharp profile. “They only like him because he’s famous! They wouldn’t look twice at him if he couldn’t do that Wonky-Faint thingy – ”

Chapter 20: The First Task

In this chapter... Harry and Hermione spend a lot of time in the library, reading books, to try and find a simple spell that will help Harry get around whichever dragon he gets. Harry makes Cedric’s bag split, so that he can give Cedric a tip-off about the dragons. All the other champions will know about the dragons. Professor Moody sees him sharing information. Moody isn’t annoyed with Harry though. Moody ends up giving him a valuable hint on how he can defeat the dragons – he urges Harry to "play to his strengths". Harry realises that he can use his broom and fly around the dragon. He and Hermione spend hours and hours learning a Summoning Spell, and the night before the task he finally gets it.
It is the day of the first task, and the champions meet Ludo Bagman in a tent. The whole Hogwarts are gathering in the stadium. The champions are to retrieve a egg, from underneath their prartivular dragon. The champions each draw a dragon from a bag. Cedric gets the Swedish Short-Snout and has to go first. The next to go is Fleur, she gets to face the Welsh Green. Viktor has to go third, and face the Chinese Fireball. Harry is the last up to face his dragon, the Hungarian Horntail. When it’s Harry’s turn, he Summons his Firebolt and kicks off into the air to face the dragon. Harry flies spectually – his nevously has gone, once he is in the air – and manages to retrieve the egg faster than any other the other champions. Just when he thinks he can’t feel any happier, Ron finally apologizes and they become friends again. Hermione just bursts into tears. Harry gets top marks for his task, and is tied with Krum for first place. He gets a mysterious clue about the next task, which will take place months from now in February.

“Great Scott, he can fly!” yelled Bagman as the crowd shrieked and gasped. “Are you watching this, Mr Krum?”
