In this chapter... The next day, Harry goes to the Ministry of Magic, with Mr Weasley, for the hearing. They travel on the London Underground. After a few moments’ confusion above ground they find their way to a back street and squeeze into what appears to be a broken ’phone box – not very impressive for the Ministry of Magic, Harry thinks, but Arthur dials 62442 and a woman’s voice invites them to state their business. Arthur explains; a visitor’s badge appears in the returned coin slot for Harry and they’re off – downwards, as the ’phone box turns out to be a lift.
They emerge in the very impressive and busy underground entrance hall of the Ministry, the Atrium. They head for Arthur’s office, and in the Auror Headquarters Kingsley Shacklebolt gives Arthur a copy of The Quibbler hidden in a pile of parchments: it’s obvious that their membership of the Order is a secret, but Kingsley whispers to Harry that the magazine is for Sirius, whose ‘wanted’ posters fill the office. It is a good thing they arrive there early, as Harry’s hearing time has been changed, and also the place where the hearing will be held. They hurry to Courtroom ten. Harry has to go in the Courtroom alone – Mr Weasley waits anxiously outside.
“The poor things keep calling in those – those pumbles, I think they’re called – you know, the ones who mend pipes and things – ”
“Plumbers?”
“ – exactly, yes, but of course they’re flummoxed.”

Chapter 8: The Hearing
In this chapter... Harry walks uncertainly into the giant, ominous courtroom he saw the previous year in Professor Dumbledore's Pensieve. Harry discovers that a full Wizengamot Court is going to put him on trial. Cornelius Fudge is leading the court – Percy Weasley is there too, as Court Scribe. A serious-looking witch on one side, who turns out to be Amelia Bones, flanks Cornelius Fudge. Just as the hearing is going to begin, Professor Dumbledore shows up, to defend Harry. If he is convicted Harry will be expelled from Hogwarts.
Harry explains to the Court that he only did the Patronus Charm to send the Dementors away. The majority of the judges refuse to believe this – however, Madam Ameila Bone seems impressed that Harry could produce a fully formed Patronus at fifteen years old. Professor Dumbledore brings Arabella Figg in for Harry's defense. Mrs Figg does her best to defend Harry and tell the court about the Dementor attack. Harry also gets a glimpse of Dolores Umbridge, Senior Undersecretary to the Minister, whom he loathes immediately, although he's not quite sure why.
Harry is cleared of all charges and Professor Dumbledore sweeps from the room without one look or one word to Harry.
Some looked annoyed, others slightly frightened; two elderly witches in the back row, however, raised their hands and waved in welcome.
Who says “You produced a fully-fledged Patronus?” Madam Amelia Bones
