One part is still in Voldemort's body and Professor Dumbledore believes that the other Horcruxes Voldemort placed in some of the objects he stole, like Hufflepuff's cup and Slytherin's locket. Harry is a bit reluctant because deep down he was saving the Felix in the hopes that he could ask Ginny out. Hermione passes her apparition test while Ron failed by leaving half an eyebrow behind.
After taking the Felix Felicis, that evening, Harry confidently goes to Hagrid’s hut, to watch Aragog’s burial. He meets Professor Slughorn, and asks the Professor to join him and Hagrid to celebrate Aragog’s life. With Felix's help, Harry is able to procure the memory from Slughorn.
What is the correct magical name for Aragog, the spider, who dies in this book? Acromantula
In this chapter... Harry still can’t think how to get the memory from Professor Slughorn. It is reported that Mundungus Fletcher has been arrested for impersonating an Inferi – a dead body. Kreacher and Dobby come to report on what Draco has been doing. Malfoy has been using the Room of Requirement, and having Crabbe and Goyle standing guard, as girls – using Polyjuice potion. No matter how much Harry tries, he cannot get into the Room of Requirement.
“Well, what Harry said is the most useful if we’re trying to tell them apart!” said Ron. “When we come face to face with one down a dark alley we’re going to be having a shufti to see if it’s solid aren’t we, we’re not going to be asking, ‘Excuse me, are you the imprint of a departed soul?’”
Who did the Daily Prophet say had been arrested impersonating an Inferi?
Mundungus Fletcher
Chapter 22: After The Burial
In this chapter... Harry still is trying to see what is going on in the Room of Requirement – what Draco is up too. Hagrid sends a note to the Trio, saying that Aragog, the giant spider, has died. Would they come down for the burial that evening? The Trio aren’t supposed to be out of the castle after nightfall. Ron and Hermione are going to take their Apparition tests in Hogsmeade that day. “This is Felix Felicis I suppose? Said Hermione anxiously, holding up the bottle to the light. “You haven’t got another little bottle full of – I don’t know – “
“Essence of Insanity” suggested Ron as Harry swung his cloak over his shoulders.

Chapter 19: Elf Tails
In this chapter... Ron is slowly recovering. Nobody can think why Ron was poisoned but Hermione mentions that the mead was for Professor Dumbledore originally. Harry constantly checks the Marauder’s Map, puzzled why Draco Malfoy disappears sometimes. Cormac McLaggen replaces Ron as Gryffindor Keeper, while Ron recovers. The next Gryffindor game is against Hufflepuff. Luna Lovegood provides the commentary for Hufflepuff against Gryffindor, which is a very unusual and entertaining one. During the game, McLaggen continually tells the other Gryffindor players what to do and how to play better. McLaggen accidently hits a Bludger toward Harry, which knocks Harry out cold. Harry awakes in the Hospital wing.
Hufflepuff won the game. While in the Hospital wing, Harry can’t stop thinking about Malfoy. A brilliant idea comes to him, and he summons Kreacher. Dobby also arrives with Kreacher – the two house-elves are fighting each other, as Kreacher insulted Harry. Harry asks Dobby and Kreacher to follow Draco Malfoy – making it clear to Kreacher that he is not to tell Malfoy what he is up to.
What position does Zacharias Smith play on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team? Chaser
Chapter 20: Lord Voldemort's Request
In this chapter... Harry and Ron leave the Hospital wing. Hermione is finally friends with Ron again. Harry is also pleased to learn that Ginny and Dean have had an argument, although they haven’t broken up. Harry has his next lesson with Dumbledore. Dumbledore is disappointed that Harry hasn’t got the memory for Slughorn yet, but Harry promises to get it soon. Dumbledore has two memories to show Harry.
After leaving Hogwarts, Tom Riddle took a job in Borgin and Burke’s. The memory shows Tom Riddle go to a rich witch’s home, and the witch – Hepzibah Smith – showing Tom two of her treasures. One is a cup, which belonged to Helga Hufflepuff - Hepzibah is a descendent of her – and the other is a locket of Slytherin’s. This locket is the same locket that Merope Gaunt sold to Mr Burke. A few days later, Hepzibah Smith was found dead. Her house-elf, Hokey, was convicted of murdering her mistress. The other memory is another one of Professor Dumbledore’s. Lord Voldemort – an older Tom Riddle – comes to see Professor Dumbledore, asking to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. Of course Dumbledore refused. Dumbledore says that ever since that meeting with Lord Voldemort, the DADA job has been cursed.
Harry goes to Professor Dumbledore’s next lesson, still without Professor Slughorn’s memory. Dumbledore has managed to find two other memories. Harry is shown a memory of a house elf, belonging to a rich woman, Hepzibah Smith. What is on the cup that she showed Tom Riddle? Badger

“And that’s Smith of Hufflepuff with the Quaffle,” said a dreamy voice, echoing over the grounds, “He did the commentary last time, of course, and Ginny Weasley flew into him, I think probably on purpose – it looked like it. Smith was being quite rude about Gryffindor, I expect he regrets that now he’s playing them – oh look, he’s lost the Quaffle, Ginny took it from him, I do like her, she’s very nice…”

She slid back the fine, filigree clasp and flipped open the box. There upon the smooth crimson velvet lay a heavy gold locket.
Voldemort reached out his hand without invitation this time and held it up to the light, staring at it.
“Slytherin’s mark,” he said quietly, as the light played upon an ornate, serpentine S.

Chapter 17: A Sluggish Memory
In this chapter... Harry and Ron return to Hogwarts after the Christmas Holidays. Percy’s stay at the Burrow was very short and unsuccessful. Hermione is still not speaking to Ron. Hermione gives Harry a letter from Professor Dumbledore about his next private lesson. Apparition lessons will soon be taught to all the sixth years. When Harry goes to his private lesson, he tells Professor Dumbledore what he overheard between Professor Snape and Harry. Dumbledore says he trusts Snape, and the conversation comes to an abrupt end. Professor Dumbledore shows Harry two very important memories. The first shows a teenaged Riddle, going to Little Hangleton – where his mother, father and grandparents lived. Only Morfin Gaunt was left alive, out of the Gaunt’s. Lord Voldemort murdered his Muggle father and his Muggle grandparents, and then modified Morfin’s memory, to make him believe he did the crime. Morfin was sent to Azkaban, and nobody ever knew – except for Professor Dumbledore – that Morfin was in Little Hangleton.
The second memory that Harry is shown, Dumbledore says may be the most important of all. It is a memory of a younger Professor Slughorn, holding one of his special parties for selected students – one of which is Tom Riddle. Tom Riddle has the Gaunt ring – the one that Professor Dumbledore has now, and the same one that Marvolo Riddle showed Bob Ogden. This proves that Tom has already murdered his father and grandparents. Harry sees Tom wait behind, after all the students leave, to ask Professor Slughorn what Horcruxes are. The memory gets foggy suddenly, and Slughorn shouts that he doesn't know anything about Horcruxes. Dumbledore explains that Slughorn has modified his own memory, and he sets Harry the most important task of retrieving the true memory from Professor Slughorn.
How many Galleons will Apparition lessons cost? 12.
Chapter 18: Birthday Surprises
In this chapter... To Harry’s disappointment, Hermione does not know what Horcruxes are – and there is nothing about them in the library either. When Harry tries to question Professor Slughorn, he has the same reaction as Tom Riddle – Slughorn declares that he doesn’t know what they are. The sixth years attend their first Apparition lessons in the Great Hall – the weather is too wild to be taken outside. A Ministry wizard, Wilkie Twycross, takes the lessons. Nobody enjoys the lessons much. However, Harry does overhear Malfoy yelling at his friend, Crabbe, and Harry realizes that Malfoy is using his friends as lookouts for something.
Ron celebrates his seventeenth birthday on the first of March. Harry has been constantly checking the Marauders Map, seeing where Draco Malfoy is, and what he is doing. Ron accidently eats some Cauldron Cakes, which Romilda Vane gave to Harry at Christmas. They are spiked with Love Potion, from Fred and George’s shop, which makes Ron think he is in loves with Romilda. Harry takes Ron to Professor Slughorn to ask him to make an antidote for the Love Potion. Ron is soon himself again. Professor Slughorn gives Harry and Ron a drink in celebration of Ron's birthday. The matured mead was supposed to be a Christmas present for Professor Dumbledore. Ron is the first to drink the mead and he collapses immediately, foaming horrifically at the mouth and twitching violently. Harry remembers that a tiny bezoar stone will cure most poisons. He shoves it down Ron's throat, praying that it works.

“Oh, hang on – password.Abstinence”
“Precisely,” said the Fat Lady in a feeble voice, and swung upwards to reveal the portrait hole.

“Splinching, or the separation of random body parts,” said Wilkie Twycross dispassionately, “occurs when the mind is insufficiently determained. You must concentrate continually upon your destination, and move, without haste, but with deliberation…thus”
Twycross stepped forwards, turned gracefully on the spot with his arms outstretched and vanished in a swirl of robes, reappearing at the back of the hall.

The party is not as bad as Harry expected. It improves when Filch, the caretaker, drags Draco Malfoy into the party. He has found Draco lurking about, trying to gatecrash the party. Professor Snape takes Draco away, to reprimand him – Harry can’t resist following them, under the Invisibility Cloak and listening to their conversation. Ron says if anybody breaks an Unbreakable Vow, they die. Harry is convinced that Malfoy is working for the Death Eaters, as well as Snape. However, when Harry discusses with Remus Lupin and Arthur Weasley, they both say they trust Snape – Snape must had questioned Malfoy on Professor Dumbledore’s orders.
When everybody is eating Christmas dinner, on Christmas Day, there are two very unexpected visitors to the Burrow – Rufus Scrimgeour and Percy Weasley. Scrimgeour is obviously there to have a private chat with Harry, and is using Percy as an excuse to get to see him. While walking in the garden, with Harry, Scrimgeour tries to persuade Harry to come to the Ministry’s side, to show people that the Ministry is fighting against Lord Voldemort. Fred, George, Harry, and Ron were the only ones who knew that the angel on top of the tree was actually a garden gnome that had bitten Fred on the ankle as he pulled up carrots for Christmas dinner. Stupefied, painted gold, stuffed into a miniature tutu and with small wings glued to its back, it glowered down at them all, the ugliest angel Harry had ever seen, with a large bald head like a potato and rather hairy feet.

Chapter 13: The Secret Riddle
In this chapter... Katie is still in St. Mungo’s hospital. Nobody knows who gave Katie the dangerous parcel – Harry, however, is still convinced of Malfoy’s guilt. Harry has his next private lesson with Professor Dumbledore. Dumbledore has been absent from Hogwarts lately. He won’t tell Harry where he has been, but says he will tell Harry eventually. They use the Pensieve again. First of all they see a memory of Mr Burke (one of the owners of Borgin and Burke’s). He tells of how he brought a locket from Merope Gaunt, for very little money.
Then Harry and Professor Dumbledore enter the memory of a younger Dumbledore, visiting a Muggle orphanage and visiting an orphan, Tom Riddle. Even when younger, Tom had magical powers. Harry sees the younger Dumbledore telling Tom that he has been accepted as Hogwarts. Tom, of course, will grow up to be Lord Voldemort. When Dumbledore interviews Tom and tells him he can do magic the boy is proud and self-absorbed. Dumbledore finds out he steals and is cruel to other children in the orphanage. Tom always seemed to enjoy collecting “trophies” from his crimes.
In his next lesson with Professor Dumbledore, Harry is taken to a memory of Dumbledore’s, and sees a much younger Tom Riddle. After Tom Riddle argued with a Billy Stubbs, what animal is found hung? Rabbit
Chapter 14: Felix Felicis
In this chapter... Hermione and Ron are fascinated to hear about a younger Lord Voldemort. Ron is jealous of Harry and Hermione being members of the “Slug Club”. Professor Slughorn keeps holding little parties for selected pupils – although Harry has always managed to find excuses not to attend them. Ron is taken aback when Hermione tells him that she was planning on asking him to the next one as her guest. Harry is a little confused how to handle Hermione and Ron’s friendship together. If they fell out, he might lose his two best friends.
The first Quidditch match of the season is rapidly approaching. Ron isn’t doing very well as Gryffindor Keeper, and not very popular with his teammates. After another Quidditch practice, Harry and Ron find Ginny and her boyfriend, Dean Thomas, kissing. Ron is furious, and Harry is surprised to find he doesn’t like it either. He doesn't want anyone touching Ginny, and quickly realizes he really likes her, that he has for a long time but he never knew it. It is the day of the first Quidditch match – Gryffindor against Slytherin. To bolster Ron’s confidence, while playing Quidditch, Harry pretends to put Felix Felicis into Ron’s pumpkin juice before the game. He lets Hermione see him “spike” Ron’s drink. When Ron suspects he drank the potion his confidence soars and they win spectacularly. Hermione accuses Harry of spiking Ron’s drink, and Harry reveals to them that he never did anything to Ron’s drink. Hermione storms off in tears, after another argument with Ron. Ron retaliates against Hermione later that night by kissing Lavender Brown for hours at a time. Hermione is devastated, and a feud begins.
Which aunt does Ginny taunt Ron about, saying he sleeps with a picture of her under his pillow? Muriel

This younger Albus Dumbledore’s long hair and beard were auburn. Having reached their side of the street, he strode off along the pavement, drawing many curious glances due to the flamboyantly cut suit of plum velvet that he was wearing.
“Nice suit, sir,” said Harry, before he could stop himself, but Dumbledore merely chuckled.

She’s Ron’s sister, Harry told himself firmly. Ron’s sister. She’s out of bounds. He would not risk his friendship with Ron for anything. He punched his pillow into a more comfortable shape and waited for sleep to come, trying his utmost not to allow his thoughts to stray anywhere near Ginny.

Harry is convinced that Malfoy is behind the whole ugly scene, and is furious with his friends when they don't support his theory. Professor McGonagall says Draco was not in Hogsmeade – he was in detention with her, for failing to do his divination homework.
Harry finds helpful hints and spells that the Half Blood Prince has written in the Potion book. One of them is a hex that makes toenails to grow alarmingly fast. Who did Harry try this on? Vincent Crabbe

Hagrid takes Katie to Hogwarts immediately. Professor McGonagall is waiting for the Trio, at Hogwarts. In the package, of Katie’s, is an ornate opal necklace. Harry recognises it as an object from Borgin and Burkes. He first saw it four years ago, and it was there when Draco Malfoy was there, when they were in Diagon Alley too. Harry is convinced that Malfoy is behind the whole ugly scene, and is furious with his friends when they don't support his theory. Professor McGonagall says Draco was not in Hogsmeade – he was in detention with her, for failing to do his divination homework.
Harry had pinned Mundungus against the wall of the pub by the throat. Holding him fast with one hand, he pulled out his wand.
“Harry!” squealed Hermione.
“You took that from Sirius’s house,” said Harry, who was almost nose-to-nose with Mundungus and was breathing in an unpleasant smell of old tobacco and spirits. “That had the Black family crest on it”
Harry finds helpful hints and spells that the Half Blood Prince has written in the Potion book. One of them is a hex that makes toenails to grow alarmingly fast. Who did Harry try this on? Vincent Crabbe

Chapter 9: The Half-Blood Prince
In this chapter... Professor McGonagall tells Harry that he will still be able to take Potions. Professor Slughorn accepts pupils with lower O.W.L.’s. Ron is also accepted too. The Trio have their first Defence Against the Dark Arts with Professor Snape. They are learning non-verbal spells. Harry isn't surprised when he gets into an argument with Snape and lands himself in detention. Harry also gets a note from Professor Dumbledore – his first private lesson with him will be on Saturday evening.
The first Potions class with Professor Slughorn is extremely interesting. Harry and Ron borrow Potion ingredients and the set textbook from Professor Slughorn. Their first test is to create the Draught of Living Death. Whoever does the best potion will win a tiny bottle of Felix Felicis potion. Felix Felicis makes you have a lucky day, everything will go right for you. Harry looks more closely at his textbook. With the instructions of how to make the potion, the previous owner wrote their own instructions in the margins. Harry decides to follow the handwritten ones – they work much better than the textbook instructions. Harry wins Felix Felicis. Hermione is annoyed that Harry cheated. And Ginny is not impressed that Harry is following orders from a book – it is like the diary, four years previously. Harry learns that the book once belonged to someone called the Half-Blood Prince.
What does Professor Slughorn ask his class to make in his first lesson? Draught of Living Death
Chapter 10: The House of Gaunt
In this chapter... Harry continues following the Half-Blood Prince's instructions over the book's instructions and becomes the star of the Potions class, much to Hermione's disgust. Harry goes to his first private lesson with Professor Dumbledore. Dumbledore tells Harry that they are going to learn about Lord Voldemort’s past. Harry goes into the Pensieve with Professor Dumbledore, into a Bob Ogden’s memory. Ogden used to work in the Ministry – Harry and Professor Dumbledore see him going to see a family, called Gaunt. The Gaunt home is nothing more than a hut.
Ogden informs Morfin Gaunt that he is going on trial for hexing Muggles. Morfin is a Parseltongue. Harry sees Merope Gaunt, who is Morfin’s sister – who seems to do the most of the work in the home – and Marvolo Gaunt, the father to Morfin and Merope. The Gaunts are descendents of Salazar Slytherin. Professor Dumbledore tells Harry that Merope was Voldemort's mother. She enchanted a Muggle – Tom Riddle – to fall in love with her and marry her. Morfin was Voldemort’s uncle, while Marvolo (Lord Voldemort’s middle name is Marvolo) was Lord Voldemort’s grandfather. With his head swimming with tons of new information about Voldemort's past, he says goodnight and heads back to the Common Room to fill in Ron and Hermione with everything he's learned.

Merope shut her head frantically, pressing herself into the wall, apparently unable to speak.

Chapter 5: An Excess of Phlegm
In this chapter... Molly Weasley makes Harry some dinner and Harry learns that Mr Weasley has been promoted, at the Ministry. Fred and George’s joke shop – Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes – is going from strength to strength, in Diagon Alley. Tonks – Nymphadora Tonks – is also there when Harry and Professor Dumbledore arrive. Her usual bubble-gum pink hair is mousy brown and she looks unhappy. The next morning, Hermione and Ron wake Harry up. Harry is surprised when Fleur Delacour walks into his bedroom with a loaded breakfast tray. Fleur is part-Veela – she took part in the Tri-Wizard Tournament two years ago. She is engaged to Bill Weasley, and they are getting married. Not many of the Weasley’s like her very much.
Harry tells Hermione and Ron about the Prophecy, and is pleased that they don’t react the way he thought they would. Later in the day the O.W.L. (Ordinary Wizarding Levels) results arrive for the Trio. Harry has got 7 O.W.L.’s – he only failed History of Magic and Divination. Ron did the same. Hermione seems slightly disappoint with ten Outstanding’s and one Exceeds Expectations. Harry’s burning ambition, to become an Auror, however, looks like it will remain just that. Harry does not secure a high-enough Potions grade to continue with the required course.
What grade did Harry get for Herbology? E – Exceeds Expectations
Chapter 6: Draco's Detour
In this chapter... Harry is enjoying his stay at the Burrow. There are daily reports of deaths and disappearances. Ollivander, the wand maker has disappeared, and so has Florean Fortescue, the man who owned the ice-cream parlour in Diagon Alley. They all go to Diagon Alley to get their school supplies. The trio are really looking forward to seeing Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. Hagrid is waiting for them in Diagon Alley; he is there to keep an eye on Harry.
The Trio go into Madam Malkin’s for new robes. They are unpleasantly surprised to find Draco Malfoy in there getting fitted for robes with his mother. They narrowly avoid brawling with Malfoy, and Harry catches him acting strangely when Madam Malkin tries to touch his arm. While in Fred and George’s new shop – which is full of people – Harry sees Draco walk past the shop alone, and decides to follow him under his Invisibility Cloak. The Trio follow Draco to Knockturn Alley and see him go into Borgin and Burkes. Harry went in that shop in his second year, and hid in a cabinet, to hide from Draco and his father. With a pair of Ron's Extendable Ears, they listen as Malfoy threatens Borgin to fix something of his. When Malfoy leaves Hermione goes into the shop to see if she can find out any more information, but Borgin quickly realizes what she's up to and throws her out. The Trio go back to Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes and pretend they have been there all along.
Before Harry and the others return to Hogwarts, they pay a visit to Diagon Alley, to get their supplies and also to see Fred and George’s magic shop. Two shops have been shut up, one is Ollivanders the wand makers and the other is Florean Fortescue’s. What did that shop specialise in? Ice cream

“Arthur, really, this is just silly…”
“What do you like me to call you when we’re alone together?”
Even by the dim light of the lantern, Harry could tell that Mrs Weasley had turned bright red; he himself felt suddenly warm around the ears and neck, and hastily gulped soup, clattering his spoon so loudly as he could against the bowl.
“Mollywobbles,” whispered a mortified Mrs Weasley into the crack at the edge of the door.

However, Professor Dumbledore arrives at the appointed time. Dumbledore's arrival is less-than-welcome to the Dursley's. Vernon looks at Professor Dumbledore with loathing while Petunia seems frightened, as is Dudley.

Professor Dumbledore is taking Harry on a mysterious errand. Harry questions Dumbledore about what's been going on in the wizarding world while he's been stuck at the Dursley's. When the Hogwarts Express reaches King’s Cross Station again, Harry is met by all the Weasleys, Lupin, Mad Eye, and Tonks. Harry finds out that it's his destiny to battle Voldemort to the death.
“It is time,” he said, “for me to tell you what I should have told you five years ago, Harry. Please sit down. I am going to tell you everything.”

Chapter 38: The Second War Begins
In this chapter... The Daily Prophet announces the return of Lord Voldemort, and praises Harry for being "the lone voice of truth". Harry can’t decide if it is worse being alone or being with people. Everybody is recovering well in the Hospital Wing. Professor McGonagall returns to the school, back to full fitness, and Professor Umbridge leaves the school. The knowledge that he will one day have to fight Voldemort to the death leaves Harry feeling separate from everyone else and very much alone. Harry finds comfort in the unlikely source of Luna Lovegood. She witnessed her mother die – this is why she can see Thestrals. She reassures Harry that one day he will see Sirius again, just as she will see her mother again one day. When the Hogwarts Express reaches King’s Cross Station again, Harry is met by all the Weasleys, Lupin, Mad Eye, and Tonks. They all troop over to where the Dursleys are standing and threaten them into treating Harry with respect. It means more than he can say that his friends stick up for him, and as he leaves with the Dursleys he smiles and waves farewell.
“What are you doing, Potter?” said Snape coldly as ever, as he strode over to the four of them.
“I’m trying to decide what curse to use on Malfoy, sir,” said Harry fiercely.

Ginny and Luna are on lookout, and Umbridge is drawn away from her office by a diversion. Hermione and Harry get into Umbridge’s office quite easily. Harry sticks his head in the fire to check on Sirius. Only Kreacher is at Grimmauld Place. He seems happy about something. He says Sirius has “gone out” and will not be returning.
Professor Umbridge, meanwhile, has seen through the diversion and got the Inquisitorial Squad to capture Ron, Ginny, Luna, and Neville. Neville was captured because he was protecting Ginny. Umbridge sends for Professor Snape, intending to force Harry to drink Veritaserum so she can find out who he was talking to.
