Elliot
My little great-nephew, Elliot, is only seven weeks old, and has had a skin irritation for about two weeks now, and although my niece has been to the doctors four times (this between moving into a new house!) the doctors did not seem concerned. Elliot was very unsettled indeed this morning, so went back to the doctors. At the moment, he's in hospital having lots of tests. The tests came back to say it is menegitis but have to find out which strain. He's got a IV in him and got antibiotics going in him. Apparently he is kicking his legs and cooing, and responding to the anti-biotics. Lets hope he'll be OK, I am sure Dad is looking over his great-grandson. Elliot and William's Dad is still out in Afghanistan until November, but being updated on Elliot's condition. So any good wishes would be much appreciated xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

OMG - I hope and pray it isn't meningitis. My love and thoughts to the whole family.
And from one mother to another, if your sister thinks it is serious then she should just bypass the doctor altogether and get straight down to casualty.
Well it is meningitis, but they don't know which strain. We'll probably know more later today. He seemed to have perked up a bit after the anti-biotics were pumped into him. He's in the best place. Thanks Donna xxx
Well, it was confirmed last night that Eliot does has meningitis, but they don't know which strain. He's still in hospital, but the Doctors aren't too concerned. We should know which strain tomorrow. His daddy is out in Afghanistan, but at the hospital with my niece at the moment. They are also treating hin for circulation, as he was very cold and "shutting down" yesterday when he was taken in, so thank goodness he went into hospital when he did or it might have been a different story.
My cousin also had meningitis when he was only nine weeks old, and now he's 23, and a policeman, so it shows people do survive meningitis. Thanks everybody, for all your support
We don't know anything new today really. We're still not sure which strain of meningitis it is, but the important thing is that he seems to be responding to the treatment. When they tried to get a drain in him on Tuesday, they had to put it in his head as he didn't have any veins. They had to swap the place today, so had to shave his head so that it would be easier to do it. So he's a little uncomfortable today. The main fear with meningitis, of course, is the loss of hearing, but he seems fine and responding to his Nannie and his Pops. His Dad is hopefully home for ten days. So it looks like he is on the road of recovery :-)
Today's update :) He's doing fine. They haven't said which strain, but everything is OK. His heart scan shows nothing adnormal which is a relief. We don't know when he'll be home, but he's doing well, and is bright enough!
Well, today it is sort of good news. The wonderful doctors and nurses are having difficulty getting the right drugs into the drain in Elliot's head - they couldn't find a vein - so, as we speak, he's going for an operation to put a tube in his chest. That will make it easier for them to put the drugs in. He's having the operation at a very well known children's hospital, Alder Hey, and then returning to the other hospital. We just have to keep faith (or keep everything crossed possible, or even both!) that everything will work out. Another update tomorrow
He had his operation last night, and he's doing fine. Even better he may be coming home tomorrow - the doctors will have to come once a day to give him the drugs but all the good wishes from all over the world seems to be working. Keep it up :-)
