Chapter 29: Career Advice
In this chapter... Harry doesn’t even tell Hermione and Ron about what he saw in the Pensieve. Harry realises that his father – and his friends, particularly Sirius – weren’t as wonderful as he thought. Harry longs to speak to Sirius about what he saw, but Umbridge is keeping an eye on all the fires, and reading any post delivered by owls. Fred and George say that they will arrange a diversion so Harry can use Umbridge's fire to contact Sirius.
The fifth years have career advice with Professor McGonagall, to discuss what they aim to be. Harry has a meeting with McGonagall about his career ambition to become an Auror. Umbridge oversees the meeting and states that Harry will never become a Auror, with his criminal record.
When Fred and George’s diversion goes off, Harrt heads to Professor Umbridge’s office, and uses her fire, so that his head can visit Grimmauld Place. Harry manages to see both Sirius and Lupin, and he tells them all about the memory he saw, with James and a younger Snape. Lupin and Sirius both stick up for James's behavior, saying he was young and grew out of his arrogance. Harry feels better about it but has to go when he hears somebody coming. In the Enterance Hall, Fred and George are surrounded by Umbridge and the rest of the school. She tries to apprehend them and they make a spectacular escape that Harry is sure will soon be a Howart's legend, on their broomsticks. Their joke shop – Weasleys’ Wizarding Wheezes – is all ready at 93 Diagon Alley, and they market their products, of course, to the very end .

“I would advise you to concentrate hard on bringing your Transfiguration and Potions up to scratch. I see Professor Flitwick has graded you between “Acceptable” and “Exceeds Expectations” for the last two years, so your Charm work seems satisfactory. As for Defence Against the Dark Arts, your marks have been generally high. Professor Lupin in particular thought you – are you quite sure you wouldn’t like a cough drop Dolores?”

It is the last match of the Quidditch season – Gryffindor against Ravenclaw. While Hermione and Ron watch the match, Hagrid asks them them to follow him into the forest. Hermione and Harry finally discover why Hagrid has been getting so many injuries. When he was on his secret mission, with Madame Maxime, he discovered he has a half brother – Grawp – and he brought him back with him. Grawp is a giant too – although smaller than most giants. Hagrid has been hiding Grawp in the forest, and trying to teach him English. Hagrid asks Hermione and Harry to look after Grawp if Umbridge fires him. Harrry, Hermione and Hagrid also run foul of the centaurs in the forest. They do not approve of Grawp being in the forest. When Harry and Hermione return to the school, match has finished. Ron played magnificently and they won the Quidditch Cup.

“An’ this is Hermione see? Her-“ Hagrid hesitated. Turning towards Hermione, he said, “Would yeh mind if he called yeh Hermy, Hermione? On’y it’s a difficult name fer him ter remember”
“No, not at all,” squeaked Hermione.

Hermione rushes off to send a letter to someone…not telling Ron and Harry what she is up to. Also, Professor Umbridge has put Hagrid on probation. Umbridge makes another Educational Decree, which bans teachers from talking about anything they are not qualified to teach.
On Valentine’s Day, Harry gpes into Hogsmeade with Cho. Before he goes, Hermione asks him to meet her at the Three Broomsticks at midday. If Harry has to bring Cho along it doesn’t matter. Cho and Harry goes to Madam Puddifoots tea-shop, a hangout for couples. Cho is not pleased that Harry is meeting Hermione in a few hours. She only wants to talk about Cedric. Harry is very uncomfortable talking about Cedric. Cho argues with Harry, and leaves him in the tea-shop. Harry heads for the Three Broomsticks.

He avoids everybody else for days until Hermione comes to Grimmauld Place – she did not enjoy skiing very much – and confronts Harry. Ron, Hermione and Ginny convince Harry that Voldemort is not possessing him – Ginny even reminds Harry that Voldemort possessed her four years ago. She knows exactly what it feels like, and Harry isn’t having blank periods of time, where he doesn’t know what he was doing.
They all go to see Mr Weasley on Christmas Day. Mr Weasley’s wounds are not healing as well as they should be. The Healers had attempted Muggle stitches, on Arthur, much to Molly’s disgust. Harry, Hermione, Ginny and Ron leave Mrs Weasley shouting at her husband, and try and find the visitor’s tearoom. When they are looking for it, they come across their ex Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher – Gilderoy Lockheart. His memory is still slightly vague, so is on a closed ward. While unwillingly visiting with Lockheart, on the ward, they also meet Neville and his Grandmother. They are visiting Neville’s parents, who were tortured into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange. Hermione Ginny and Ron are horrified to learn Neville’s secret, and feel extremely sorry for him. But, of course, Harry already knew about Neville’s parents. This, perhaps, contains one of the saddest scenes for me, when Neville’s parents are introduced.

“Well it’s nothing to be ashamed of!” said Mrs Longbottom angrily. “You should be proud, Neville, proud! They didn’t give their health and their sanity so their only son would be ashamed of them, you know!”
“I’m not ashamed,” said Neville, very faintly, still looking anywhere but at Harry and the others.

Snape comes to Grimmauld Place to tell Harry of this, and enjoys taunting Sirius at the same time. Mr Weasley is out of hospital and back to full health. Everybody returns to Hogwarts by the Knight Bus.
On the first day back, Harry manages to ask Cho Chang to join him in Hogsmeade, on the next Hogsmeade weekend – which, coincidentally is Valentine’s Day. However, during his Occlumency lesson. Snape repeatedly taunts Harry and forces open his mind. Harry has lots of memories – some he is unwilling to show Snape – but he finally has a break-through. Harry realizes that the corridor he's been dreaming about for so many months is in the Department of Mysteries. That night as he's getting ready for bed Harry's scar explodes with pain, and Harry knows that Voldemort is happier about something than he has been in years.

“Harry, dear,” said Mrs Weasley, poking her head into his and Ron’s bedroom, where the pair of them were playing wizard chess watched by Hermione, Ginny, and Crookshanks, “could you come down to the kitchen? Professor Snape would like a word with you.”

A portrait says that Arthur has been taken to S. Mungo’s hospital. Professor Dumbledore sends Harry, Ron, Ginny and the Twins to Grimmauld Place, to wait with Sirius, and wait for news. Mrs Weasley will go straight to the hospital.
The Weasleys do not like waiting at Grimmauld place, but finally, Mrs Weasley arrives with news. Mr Weasley is going to be all right. The Slytherin's have come up with a new song to taunt the Gryfinndor team, - Weasley is our King. It is certainly not complimentary of Ron, and his goalkeeping abilities plummet as they sing it loudly throughout the game.
Harry manages to make sure Gryffindor win by catching the Snitch early. Malfoy is sore from losing and begins insulting the Weasleys and Harry's mother. Harry and George are unable to control their tempers and get into a fistfight with Malfoy. Umbridge decides to ban them both, in addition to George's twin, Fred, from ever playing Quidditch again. Hagrid does not do very well with the questioning. Harry is convinced that Umbridge knows way more than she should about Hagrid's mission.

Professor Umbridge has posted a large sign up, declaring that "All Student Organizations, Societies, Teams, Groups, and Clubs are henceforth disbanded." . Somehow, Umbridge must have found out about their meeting –but the Trio still plan to continue the meetings anyway. Harry is also surprised to find out that Umbridge is including Quidditch in her ban,.
